If you’re a Third Culture Kid, where would you rate yourself on this scale:
- 1. I’m no chameleon; I live out my one chosen culture anywhere and everywhere.
2. I’m settled into my chosen culture, but I can take on aspects of other cultures if I work at it.
3. I’m only a chameleon in new and unfamiliar places.
4. I’m a chameleon most of the time.
5. I’ve become one with my ‘inner chameleon’.
6. Other
We’re told that many TCKs become cultural chameleons due to prolonged exposure to numerous cultures during their developmental years. So I was wondering: How many of us tend to be chameleons in new situations? On the other hand, how many of us reject the chameleon perspective and instead project our chosen culture wherever we happen to be?
In other words, are you a chronic chameleon, an anti-chameleon, or somewhere in between?
Interesting question, Let me give that one some thought… Well I would say since I have moved around a lot. Well I do not know if different states count as different culture. For u.s Culture is U.S culture. But I will say this I never change no matter where I go. I am Christian everywhere I go. My inner of spiritual being never changes. I am always going to be a Christ follower any where I go. Now as far as my cloths and food habits changing even the language I speak. I suppose I would and would have to change those things If I where to move into a completely different culture. But as far as my personality and behavior that would not change if I was living in a cave , a jungle, or downtown Mexico city.So to answer you question I am a outer chameleon But fully a Child of God on the inside. God bless and stay in the faith.
